In our previous blog post Preparing for The Future of Transportation – Is It Extinction or Redemption of The Moving Industry? we talked about the FMCSA steps to integrate autonomous vehicles and some of the companies dipping their toes in to be first to market.

Now The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) is seeking public comment on the topic in an effort to reduce regulatory barriers that can affect the introduction of commercial autonomous vehicles and technologies. The DOT Advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) is focused on the following topics:

  • Requirements of human drivers
  • CDL endorsements
  • Hours of Service (HOS) rules
  • Medical Qualifications for Human Operators
  • Distracted Driving and Monitoring
  • Safe Driving and Drug and Alcohol Testing
  • Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance
  • Roadside Inspections
  • Cybersecurity

Comments on the DoT’s ANPRM are due by not later than July 29th and can be made through the Regulations.gov portal.
